ATLANTA

Atlanta is the capital of Georgia. Georgia is known as the Peach State, but it’s also the country’s top producer of peanuts, pecans and Vidalia onions, considered some of the sweetest onions in the world.

The city of Atlanta is home of the worldwide giant Coca-Cola company, whose world headquarters is in midtown at One Coca-Cola Plaza. Located on the corner of North Avenue and Luckie Street, the building was finished in 1979.

Atlanta played an important part in both the Civil War and the 1960s Civil Rights Movement. Due to the complete destruction of Atlanta by fire in 1864, the city’s architecture retains no traces of its Antebellum past. But the Atlanta History Center chronicles it, and the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site is dedicated to the 1960s African-American leader’s life and times.

Downtown, the Centennial Olympic Park, built for the 1996 Olympics, encompasses the massive Georgia Aquarium. You may not want to miss other attractions in Atlanta, including the Carter Presidential Library and Museum, Zoo Atlanta and the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Atlanta sports teams include the Atlanta Falcons football team, Atlanta Hawks men’s basketball team, Atlanta Dream women’s basketball team, Atlanta Braves baseball team and the Atlanta United and Atlanta Silverbacks soccer teams.
